About August

August is the all-in-one Legal AI workspace for law firms. Automate document review, drafting, invoicing, and more. Book a demo or try free for 7 days. Backed by NEA, Pear VC and a16z speedrun.

About the role

As a Strategy & Operations Lead, you will be the operating spine of August as we scale. You will turn strategic priorities into shipped systems, build out the partnerships channel from the ground up, and run the discrete projects that don't fit anywhere else. This is not a coordination role — you report directly to the founders, take ambiguous priorities, decide what to do about them, and own the outcome.

What they're looking for

  • 2–4 years of experience in strategy consulting, operations, BizOps, finance, or a high-performance startup in a Strategy & Ops or Chief-of-Staff seat. Priority given to former founders and people who can show us things they have shipped
  • Demonstrated ability to take an ambiguous brief and run it without supervision. You see things falling on the floor and pick them up before being asked
  • AI-native operating fluency. AI is not a tool you sometimes use, it is how you operate. You can show us automations, agents, or internal tools you have built for yourself — not just used
  • Comfort with commercial deal structure — enough to hold your own in a rev-share or partnership negotiation
  • Strong written and verbal communication. You can synthesize messy input into a clear plan and defend it when challenged
  • Excitement about working in person at our NYC office, with a team that values precision, pace, and constant reinvention

We believe that in five years, more than 95% of legal work will be concentrated among a select few elite law firms. The firms that get there will be the ones that rebuild how they deliver it. We're partnering with those firms and building the engine they run on to become the biggest legal service provider in the world.

We invest in partnerships, not just licenses. We sell finished legal work alongside our firms and take a share of what it earns. This enables them to scale their services and lets us grow along with it. That means we’re chasing the legal services market ($1T), which dwarfs the global legal tech market ($40b).

The problem is hard. An engine of agents sits underneath every matter we touch, connected to every step of a lawyer's workflow, in an industry where there is no margin for error. We’re challenged with building the perfectly accurate, infallibly secure, and yet all-powerful engine for legal...
