What they're looking for
- Education: Bachelor's degree required ( Advanced degree preferred )
- Experience: 10 or more years of legislative and executive branch advocacy experience working directly with state governments
- Executive Branch Experience: Direct experience working for or closely with an executive branch official/office (e.g., Governor’s Office), or equivalent experience serving as contract counsel or lobbying on behalf of pharmaceutical companies
- Lobbying & External Counsel Experience: Proven background working as a lobbyist or contract counsel representing corporate or industry clients before state legislative and regulatory bodies
- In-depth technical knowledge of state legislative processes, state government operations, and health policy dynamics, including Medicaid policies and reimbursement decisions
- Strategic Agility & Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to exercise high strategic agility, build strategic relationships, and drive consensus among internal and external cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority

The State Government Affairs (SGA) Director is a senior leader within Genentech’s State & Local Government Affairs (SLGA) team, responsible for advancing legislative and regulatory priorities across an assigned 5–7 state region.
