About SpaceX

SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft. The company was founded in 2002 to revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets. Backed by Kleiner Perkins, a16z and Founders Fund.

About the role

SpaceX is looking for an MEP Engineer with deep mechanical and plumbing expertise to design, specify, and commission the cooling and fluid systems that keep our data center infrastructure running. This role sits at the intersection of critical facilities engineering and the physical plant — you’ll be equally comfortable in a design review and walking a mechanical room during startup. Found on 1752vc Careers, the job board for startup and VC roles.

What they're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical/plumbing design for mission-critical facilities, data centers, or comparable industrial environments
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs, flexibility required
  • Willingness to travel to job sites during construction, commissioning, and critical operational events
More about this role

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

  • Design and specify mechanical cooling systems for data center facilities: chilled water plants, CRAH/CRAC units, air handling units, and cooling towers
  • Own plumbing system design: domestic water, sanitary, storm drainage, makeup water, and process piping for cooling systems
  • Evaluate and specify facility liquid cooling infrastructure (direct-to-chip, rear-door heat exchangers, immersion cooling)
  • Perform heat load calculations, airflow modeling, and capacity planning to ensure design requirements are met
